When I was worked with spotted owls, I really didn't like the work schedule-- the owls always seemed a bit more nocturnal than me. I did, however, love being outside at night, especially during the long cross-country hikes through the open landscapes of the Sierra Nevada foothills in my last season. Flashlights were rarely needed-- the landscapes was so bright I could see colors. For a year or so after I stopped being a hooter, I made a point of doing an all-nighter every full moon to do night photography.
