These were shot on a somber winter day of a somber subject-- a school playground in a severe state of neglect. School officials were worried about the likelihood of lawsuits following injuries to children. It was replaced not long after by a plastic playground with no swings or monkey bars. Remember when playing used to be fun, and it was ok if sometimes you got hurt?
The shot below is, symbolically and in reality, a negative. One thing I've always enjoyed about shooting negatives are the multiple steps of surprises-- first, seeing the negative after development, then trying to previsualize it before making contact proof prints, then previsualizing what it will look like before making the final large print.
Sometimes, the negatives themselves look like finished works of art.
