
Endangered Ohlone Tiger Beetle Crushed by Mountain Bike

Even in Santa Cruz, a capitol of nature-loving outdoors enthusiasts, people are unable to reconcile their selfish desires with the threat of extinction.
During a two month window, this endangered beetle comes out of underground burrows to feed and mate on bare ground in meadows (ie, trails). Mountain bikers are asked to walk their bikes along a few short, clearly-marked stretches of these trails during these months, but often are, of course, unable to do so....
