13) COULD YOU IMAGINE? / ONE FINE DAY

Words are ready for a merry song to sing:
"Were you there when the great cliff came down?"

To hear about a choice calamity
That happened in Yosemite
When an earthquake shook
100 miles away—100 miles!—Can you hear?—
Go to Google. Put in "Muir earthquake".

Hooray for Google! Hooray for Google!
How does it work? How can it be?

It's safe to quarter students in the Quarry.
(Maybe not just right for top administrators ...)
The rocks are weaker in Yosemite—it's good to say—
And earthquakes here are far away.

Guess what happened one fine day.
A quarry wall just came apart,
Sending boulders the size of houses
From one side to the other.

Guess where all those boulders went!
UCSC made hot soup for the needy?
Even the spin doctors choked on that one.
